The Grass Doctor

i live in ky and need to know when to seed my lawn and what to put down with it.?

I need to know if now is a good time to seed my lawn and if i should put down anything like lime or a fertilizer of some type. I lawn is across from a field and a tall grass like wheat or something keeps passing over to my yard. In the past i have had my yard sprayed but this year i'm going it alone. Any advice would be great thanks.

  1. I would contact your local County Extension Office. Their telephone number should be listed in your telephone book under County Government, County Extension. They are associated with the Univeristy of Kentucky and have loads of free information and help. This should be your first step. The ground is too wet to take a soil sample but the Extension Agent should be able to lead you in the right direction. Good Luck.
  2. when the threat of frost is gone for the growing season. typically here in michigan it's in may, so your's may be in late march early april. check with your local extension office or get a farmers almanac. those help tons! good luck and happy lush lawn to you!
  3. Today or tomorrow would be a great time. September is good, winter seeding is way easier.
