The Grass Doctor

Can you put lime on your lawn to combat dog pee right after fertlizing it? will it harm the grass so soon?

I have a lawn service that treats my grass on a regular basis, however I don't believe they lime my lawn. I hear it promotes great color and growth, but my main goal is to combat dog pee in my yard. Since the lawn service comes every 6 weeks, can I harm my grass by putting lime down in between the lawn service coming?

  1. most fertilizers are acidifying and lime is just the opposite making it alkine. It should not hurt if you over lime especially if you live in the northeast US. Over fetilizing could be harmful but i haven't seen problems from over liming because it is hard to change a soils pH.
  2. Nothing you can put on your lawn will prevent it from turning brown where the dog goes. the best way to prevent a brown spot is to water down the spot the dog went to dilute the urine.
