On my original question regarding keeping a green lawn in Victorville, I neglected to mention one factor?

I forgot to mention the fact that the builder also installed an automatic sprinkler system. This I believe will preclude any deep soaking as has been suggested. What kind or brand of fertilizer is recommended?

1. I saw this question first and went to your other to answer. I hope I was able to help.
2. You still need to deep soak a lawn when you water it. Surface watering (short durations with either a hose or sprinkler system) will not let the water seep deeply into the ground. And, the grass will not be as durable or heat resistant without deep roots. I would think that would be important in Victorville, where it's hot and dry. A great fertilizer is Miracle Grow lawn food. Use it according to the directions. Granular products, like Scott's Turfbuilder are good, too. Also, if your grass shows brown spots or areas in the summer and you think you're watering enough, you may have a type of microscopic insect in the soil that attacks the grass roots, creating dead spots. Another product at home improvement stores is an insect killer that has a fertilizer in it. You might want to start with an application of that stuff just to kill off anything that might be there now, before it attacks the lawn.
