The Grass Doctor

How do I make my yellow lawn green again?

The grass in my backyard lawn is turning yellow in large patches due to the excessive heat. I water everyday, sometimes a little late in the morning. What can I do to turn the yellow grass to green again?

  1. Water It
  2. WATER IN THE EVENING OR EARLY MORN GOOD LUCK
  3. Water at night from 6-10 and it doesnt cause the heat to evaporate the water as quickly letting it soak in and actually keep the water in the ground.
  4. ahhh. man, our backyard has gone to hay. Water early or late, water more I guess. It just seems like a loosing battle to me. We just bought a house, and the autosprinkler system needs redoing, but it's too hot!
  5. KEEP WATERING BUT DON'T DO IT DURING THE DAY..EARLY IN THE MORNING AND IN THE EVENING..THAT WAY YOU WON'T BURN THE GRASS ANYMORE...YOU MAY WANT TO GET SOME FEED FOR IT BUT IT SOUNDS LIKE ALL IT NEEDS IS ALOT OF WATER AND YOUR LOVING TOUCH.....
  6. well my aunt keep watering and the grass turn green again although it took like a month
  7. water in the evening, just before the sun sets, that way the water can soak deep into the soil all night.
  8. stop letting your dog pee on it that usually works
  9. Watering everyday will cause your roots to be shallow. Do not water past 9 a.m. because the water will evaporate and create rain elsewhere.... Turn the grass green by spreading a 1/2 inch of compost. Compost is sold at Lowe's, Home Depo and all nurseries. If you use a chemical fertilizer it will only dye your grass green. Compost excelerates growth, and will definitely green-it-up. Water Compost deeply. It acts like a mulch for your grass but promotes all the good bugs and less watering...I am a certified Master Gardener in Texas....
  10. Don't cut your grass so short. Ours is at least 3 inches long and is green as can be with no water. The grass lays over and protects the roots of the grass from getting burned up.
