  1. Georgia Cooperative Extension Service has many publications, here's one on lawns: http://www.caes.uga.edu/Publications/pubDetail.cfm?pk_id=6001&pg=np&ct=starting lawns&kt=&kid=&pid=
  2. Are you replacing the lawn or over-seeding? Is the lawn that is down now bermuda or a longer bladed grass like bluegrass? If it's bluegrass, you'll have to take that out first. That can be done by using a sod cutter or Round-up. It takes five to seven days to kill off the grass. It is only affective on plant material and will not effect bare soil. If any chemical is used, make sure all directions are read and followed. Is the soil hard or does it turn fairly easily? If the soil is hard, consider using an aerator. Aeration breaks up the soil and will let the lime get to where it has to go faster. By the way, if you haven't had trouble growing grass, you probably don't have to add lime. If you are over-seeding, you can apply it with a spreader. If the entire lawn is being replaced, score the soil with a rake, apply the seed with a spreader, and top dress the seed with top soil. It would be a good idea to use a starter fertilizer. The best time to plant grass seed is when the maintained temperature is in the mid 50's with a fair amount of rain fall. You can plant it when it is cooler but it won't grow much until it gets warmer. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. northwesthortservice@gmail.com
