The Grass Doctor

Looking to join the us airforce and become a pilot but i scratched my eye?

Im currently 17 years old, was planning on enlisting in the airforce to become a pilot when i graduate high school. My one problem is when i was younger I got a metal shard from a lawn mower stuck in my eye. I rubbed it pretty rough because of the shock causing the metal shard to scratch my cornea. Currently my vision is 20/20 and i have no problems with the eye but im nervous that this incident will cause problems in the future.

  1. you will fly if you forget abowt yur eye,, just try : ) ( :
  2. If it's not a issue and you can see out of that eye then you should be fine. Talk to a recruiter about becoming a pilot and take a practice asvab.
  3. First off, you can't enlist and become a pilot. You need to be an officer to be a pilot, which means you'll need to attend the Air Force Academy or go through Air Force ROTC in college. A Bachelor's Degree is a prerequisite to receiving your commission as an officer. Pilot slots are extremely competitive as well, so be sure to get good grades. If your vision is 20/20 or correctable to 20/20 with surgery, you'll be eligible to become a pilot once you're an officer. I wouldn't worry about the medical issue from when you were younger. If you have a clean bill of health, it shouldn't be a problem (though I'm sure DODMERB will conduct a very careful evaluation during your physical). It won't be a dealbreaker like asthma.
  4. Talk to your recruiter, for a while the air force approved of lasik eye surgery.
  5. "...enlisting in the airforce to become a pilot..." Good luck with that.
