My jobs not worth it?
I pay more in gas money and babysitting than its worth to work. I work full time, overtime is mandatory, I only end up with about 50 extra dollars a week. Usually its for food. Should I just quit? I can make more money at home selling and buying things online. Or even mowing lawns. What would you do? I already asked for a raise, they basically laughed at me. Been there 5 years and havent gotten a single raise, and Im pretty important to the company. lack of motivation isnt a problem, some weeks we work 80 hours. I am the only person in my company that has an understanding of my job. Everyone else has been fired and hired and worked around. I am a senior in the company. Work alone, under very fast paced tight schedule. Im starting to think it isnt worth it. 8.00 an hour in NYS isnt cutting it, especially after 5 years in a production factory. And yes I make about 50 extra per week during the busy season, about 6 months of 80 hour weeks. During those other 6 months, I borrow basically. And actually, I have to 2 kids, so they get about 50 a week in stuff (food, clothes, etc etc. )

- If u are important then tell them about your new job offer... If they give you a raise then ok. if they don't then changes are better for life!
- I don't think you understand just how desperate our current job market is. What makes you think you are going to find employment again if you quit? There are people (like myself) with advanced degrees in science, engineering, and buisness who are still seeking employment. Worse, if you go too long without employment, it leaves gaps in your resume. These gaps are very bad as employers are prone to just assume it means you are lazy, even if the truth is you couldn't find work. Bottom line, do NOT leave that job until you are CERTAIN you have secured something better. This is not about what you "want" to do in life, its simply a matter of financial survival.
- You must not resign as working fulltime is very important. Ask yourself why you are where you are, do you lack motivation? Could you improve your performance? Should you ask for advice from a supervisor or boss? Be aware that some employees are not actually very good at their jobs or nice to work with and make sure that you do not fall into these categories.
- Uh, making $50 a week after taxes (and this WOULD BE taxable income) by buying and selling things online wouldn't be easy. But if you don't need that $50 extra a week, yes quit.
