The Grass Doctor

Is it okay to use seed germination blankets on established lawns?

I was at Lowe's today and I saw a couple of seed germination blankets they had. My only reservation to buying one (or more) of these is that the instructions always show the seed going into soil, and never for established lawns. Is it okay to use seed germination blankets on established lawns? Will it hurt or help? If not, how else would I protect my seeds from the sun? Thanks.

  1. The existing grass is enough. Moisture is more important which could mean sprinkling periodically throughout the day. Not where I am though...I'm wishing the sun would shine.
