The Grass Doctor

How do I get rid of seedlings in my grass?

I have a large area of buffalo grass on the side of our shop and I noticed that there is a bunch of cottonwood and elm seedlings growing. How do I get rid of them without killing my grass?

  1. Pull em before they get much of a root system! After they are even just a couple of inches high they are impossible to pull. Cutting to the ground might work, frequent mowing (even tho the grass doesn't need mowing) might discourage them. Delay, even Roundup painted onto each will be nearly useless. For me freuqent mowing does the trick.
  2. Do you mow the grass? If so, just keep mowing them and you will eventually kill them that way. I have a Silver Maple tree in my yard and I have these seedlings all over my lawn. After a few mowing they are dead. If you don't mow then you need to pull them by hand.
