Best way and time to plant grass seed in shady area?

The house im renting has hardly any grass in the back yard, there are 2 trees blocking most of the sun, what kind of grass seed would be the best? when do I plant and also how long would it take to grow? Im in ohio

  1. look at any name brand that says deep shade
  2. In Georgia I recommend Turf type Tall Fescue to my customers.
  3. There are two ways to solve the issue - 1:) trim branches to allow more sun into the area 2:) use a shady seed in early spring and rake the seed in after applying the seed to allow good soil contact with the seed and to prevent birds from eating the seed.
  4. Right after your last frost. Rake up the area & loosen the soil. Then sow the seeds & water daily for about a week, gradually getting down to twice weekly if there's no rain. ~m~
