The Grass Doctor

What's the best grass seed Home Depot sells?

I live in the N'East and want to take advantage of the 2nd planting season and help out my 4 month old lawn. I'm getting some good topsoil to lightly spread on some patches and weak areas. I have a gift card for Home Depot and will be buying the seed there. Any suggestions?

  1. Choose a type that is best for the area of your yard where you want to plant it - there are High Traffic, Sun, Sun and Shade, Dense Shade, and other varities. Then to choose brand look at the back of the package. There will be a list of the percentage of crop seed, weed seed, etc contained in the bag. You want the crop seed and weed seed percentages to be as low as possible. Cheaper seed has higher percentages. I would also recommend spreading compost instead of topsoil. Compost will be beneficial to your soil helping your grass to be healthier and compost has nutrients for your grass.
  2. Tall Fescue mix would be recommended for your purposes.
