The Grass Doctor

Why do people mow lawns in the morning?

I never really knew the answer to this, but why do people mow lawns in the morning? I mean, why can't they mow them at like 3:00 PM when everybody is AWAKE? I don't know if this only occurs in CA, but I don't think so. For those of you who keep saying it's cooler in the morning, it disturbs some of those who sleep in late. It's not really hot in the afternoon depending where you live.

  1. Because it is cooler in the morning and mowing is hot work. I sleep late like you and understand exactly what you are saying. Most folks wait until 8 am to be polite here. I'm sitting here cooling off from working outside in the shade and will mow much later tonight.
  2. Cooler in the morning. Get chores done early so you can do other things
  3. Uh thats a dumb question. MAYBE because its not as hot outside in the morning! Use your brain!
  4. People mow lawns when they are awake. If your saying that they wake you up why not just talk to your neighbors? That should help your situation.
  5. Mowing in the morning is not the best time if you use a mower that has a discharge chute and the grass is still wet from dew. The clippings stick to the chute and it tends to clog. Many gardeners and maintenance people start working early, and if mowing is done at every stop, then it's up to your neighbors when they schedule the service. Although, I'll bet the gardeners get that complaint a lot, so asking them to come later might not be an option. 3 PM is a better time, the grass is dry and you're awake.
  6. You asked why people mow lawns in the morning, people are answering that it's because it's cooler in the morning. Now you're complaining about the answer. I think you are being very biased.
  7. When I got up this morning it was 80 degs and right now at 4:30 in the afternoot it is 110 degrees. So when I need to cut my grass I do it in the morning but not before 8 am when everyone should awake. If you have to sleep later then get some wax ear plugs at the drugstore.
  8. People can have heat strokes and get sun burned in the afternoons. You go out side in the sun at 3:00 PM and mow grass or get in the sun and rake some grass or use a hoe. You will know. You can have salty sweat run into your eyes and can wipe the sweat off your brow and smell under the arms. Try standing in the sun for 40 minutes at 3:00 PM.
