Should I wear double ear protection while lawn mowing?
I already have low grade firearm type ear muffs, 7 dollar pair i bought at walmart that cuts down the level of noise quite a bit, but it still seems I could protect it more by placing ear plugs in my ears and placing the ear muffs over. I sometime suffer from tinnitus, which is a ringing in the ears, loud noise like lawn mowing can cause major damage.

- It's not a bad idea to use some foam plugs which are free or cheap and then ear muffs on top.
- I've been in the landscape maintenance business for almost 40 years and even though the lawn mowers today are rated at decible levels that are not supposed to cause damage, I wear ear protection. And especally if you already have tintinitus its a good idea to beef up your ear protection. Firearms give a hard burst of sound, lawnmowers give a sustained multilevel sound, so go with the highest decible reducing ear mufffs possible. The ones I use are around 30 to 40 decible reduction. Don't mess with your hearing!
- its a good idea
