The Grass Doctor

How do I know when we should get licensed for a lawn care business?

I wanted to start a lawn care service with my brother. Our ages are 16, and 23. I wanted to find out more about the legal part of starting a service. Is it okay to just go out and advertise for a service like this? Or is there a certain amount of money you can make without being licensed. I don't plan on this being a large scale business (Really just in the neighborhoods around my town.) If you want more detailsheck out the other question I posted. Thanks!

  1. If you're just mowing and trimming, raking, weeding, etc, no license.
  2. Depends on the business rules of your municipality or state. All your income should be reported on your tax return, and pay your taxes. Some areas require you to have a business license. If you are spraying pesticides, you need special certification for that. Call your city or state and see if you need anything. If you are mowing and trimming ONLY, usually you don't need anything special to put yourself out there for hire.
