Crabgrass control failure?

When using a pre-emergent crabicide (TEAM) in combination with a spring lawn fertilizer I notice poor control annual grass control next to concrete walks and driveways. I can't blame it on poor application procedure. I use a Lesco rotary broadcaster and these areas should receive at least there portion due to having any excess material scattered on walks etc. swept or blown back into the lawn areas immediately adjacent to the concrete. Other lawn areas not immediately adjacent to the concrete areas exhibit good control. The lawns are usually bluegrass/fine fescue/perennial ryegrass turfs. Has anyone also seen this problem when using pre-emergents such as Team or Dimension? Could the problem be a result of excess heat build-up next to paved areas?

  1. Chances are there is a buildup of water beside the concrete that helps the crabgrass grow. It probably also doesnt help that a rotary spreader cant get down into the crevice beside the concrete. You might want to try some Scotts Crabgrass preventer with HALTS. It's great stuff and works great in high heat situations. They sell it at Lowe's. Maybe even hand drop it along the edge of the concrete.
