How often should I water my grass!?

I just finished spreading Scotts Grass seeds and now im waiting for the grass to grow.... However, i am not sure how often i should water it? Everyday, every other day, with sun, without sun? Also hoping for my thumb to turn Green also!

  1. Everyday but only at night/afternoon or else the sun is gonna burn it.
  2. The first thing you need to check is water restrictions in your area. Watering more than allowed could earn you a hefty fine and make your lawn a lot more expensive than planned. You will want to water as often as restrictions allow, and if you have no restrictions, every other day. Don't water between the hours of 10am and 4 pm as the sun evaporates a lot of the water when it's at its strongest. If it rains, don't water on that day. Overwatering is just as harmful as underwatering.
  3. Hopefully you spread "Peat Moss" over top of the seed. This peat moss stuff (just plain jane peat moss) will keep the moisture there longer and not disrupt the seeds(acts as a cushion from water droplet disruption) ; and will also act as an insulator(holding in the suns heat longer) closer to the seed so the seed can germinate(root). It will give you a more even growth rather than just bare seed on the dirt. You can spread PM out by hand. Think of it as a blanket. The seed does not need "direct sun exposure" during the early processes. The PM will also add humus to the soil which is good especially if you have a clayish type ground(non humus). Every other day or even farther(depending on the weather). The info should have been on the Scotts Grass box. They don't write it down just to use up ink.
  4. I just planted grass seed. Until the grass starts to sprout you need to water twice a day. The seed needs to stay moist at all times in order to start sprouting, laying a layer of top soil over the seed will help keep the seed moist. water in the morning and evening, IF the ground is very dry in the middle of the day then you can put a little water on it to get the seed moist.
