I Have a question about a plant?

I have a project in school that I have to identify a plant from the school's property. I picked a plant that I think is a grass type plant. It is about 2 feet long and has leaves that grow opposite of each other and about 6 to 8 inches apart. The leaves are narrow and long. It is green on the center of the leaf and golden outlining the green. It also grows in the mound shape of most grasses that I have seen. I also live in Zone 7.
