What is the best type of grass to plant with clover for deer?
This spring I'm wanting to plant clover with something else in my hunting area for deer and I am just wondering what would be good to mix with clover because it grows really good here in Oklahoma. I'm wanting to plant in an area about 20x20 yards

- personally I would go with a mixture to help hedge the bets. Go to your local co-op and grab a sack of pasture mix or chances are they have a deer plot mix. For individual grasses While I'm not familiar with what grows well in your area I would look at either Perennial Ryegrass, which is fast growing, and very lush but short lived, or perhaps Timothy which is a very nutritious and palatable feed, or else Fescue which is a great all around pasture grass, K31 will be the variety easiest to find and was specifically bred for pasture use.
- Just plant clover and alfalfa. Deer can get grass anywhere. I have also never seen a deer eat fescue even though we have several hundred acres of it for pasture. In the late summer or early fall, you can till up some of that plot and plant winter wheat and turnips. That will take you through the winter. Deer love that combination.
- Oats should work nicely...
- I would plant asilike clover with rye grass and chicory
