What Is Up With All The Whiny Teenagers Boo Hooing About Their Horrible Lives And Parents?

Oh no, a teenager living at home has to do chores *gasps*. The teen is provided food, a bedroom, clothes, appliances and electronics, DVD's, game systems, education, and the teen wants to know if it's too much to ask for them to be mowing the lawn or fold the towels. Wish all I had to worry about was what to wear to the movies Friday night and if Bobby thought I was cute or not. Were you ever an ungrateful brat when you were a teenager?

  1. It's known as summer vacation. All the best.
  2. yes, i was. but im a grateful adult.. does that count for nothing?
  3. me never
  4. oh I was the brat of all brats haha my mother just smiles now that I am pregnant because later I will get a taste of what she went through.
  5. It's a normal part of human development. Bitching back at them and telling them they have it so easy will only further isolate a teenager. Just because their frustrations and pain aren't the same as yours doesn't mean they aren't real and don't deserve recognition. They don't have the perspective and experience to see things the way you want them to. Learning to become independent while also still conforming to parent's rules and expectations isn't the easiest task in the world.
  6. I was a horrible ungrateful brat when I was a teenager! I was awful ! I'm 25 now and joined the military shortly after graduating high school and it was hard for me to understand money problems and how good I had it when I was living with my dad (who raised me by himself as a single dad) I apologize to my dad a lot now that I have 2 kids and have to buy my own groceries and toilet paper. My dad was a trooper for putting up with me !
  7. I was a very unhappy and ungrateful teen. I put my parents through a lot of crap that was so trivial and so meaningless. We fought each other a lot through those years. But it's all those experiences now that really helped me to see and understand what I held near and dear to me at the time. The values of teenagers and adults are very different. What I wanted so much as a mealy-mouthed teenager just doesn't matter to me anymore. I had to do chores and things like that, but I see now that I had it so much better then before I had to start paying all of my own bills. The grass is always greener on the other side, but you have no idea until you have to mow it.
  8. I am amazed at all the teen whining, drug abuse, drinking, lying, early teen sex and manipulation of younger siblings that goes on among the teens who write and are written about in this forum. Don't tell me this is just a right of passage that has gone on in every generation because I know better.
