should i take the gamble of being self employed?
i recently lost my job. i did not quit, but on my record of employment it says i quit. i was looking into financial assistance for people who are self employed and i must be on employment insurance to get it. i was thinking of starting a small business of mowing lawns and doing gardening. is this a waste of my time? should i just forget disputing my record of employment and settle for some fast food job and accept that i cant do any better?

- Trying to clear your record is a waste of time. In the end, it won't really matter anyway. Before you start a business be sure you live in an area that can support it. Or take the job at McDonalds. money is money.
- First of all, you can always do better and you have to believe that. Starting that kind of business can be a great idea if you live in a city where this service is in demand most of the year like Florida of California, It's not a waste of time to try to clear you record but you first have to find out why the employer said you quit, if it's just to avoid paying you unemployment then you might never get it cleared so in the mean time think of what you love to do and turn that into a business and if you can't come up with anything I will be glad to help, just send me an email.
- Do a little market research in your area and see if it would be profitable for you. And don't limit your self to just lawns and gardens. Use your imagination, there are tons of services you could offer.
- Hi there , firstly you dont say what industry you lost your job from, or how old you are,but all the same there is a lot to be said for being self-employed, if you have done your research. Have you got or can you build a customer base, Are you prepared to put in the hard work associated with having and running your own business. Are you ready to work even if it is cold, wet, uncomfortable etc Can you afford to keep yourself until you start earning properly. Have you got or can you afford/borrow tools. Have you got or can you afford/borrow transport. McDonalds may be the way to get you started to give you some money for the above. but do me one favour please. never ever believe that you can't do any better!!! Get out there and chase the rainbow, people just like you change the world when they put their mind to it. Best of luck however you decide
