Big white hard patties in lawn surrounded by catterpillars?

It's a really hard,brainy looking substance,in 3 separate piles in our lawn.Not food or any thing..is it like a fungi? We have a healthy yard,and have never seen this before..

1. It is most likely a fungus. Usually a fungicide will do the trick to get rid of it.
