Home association is billing us to do a lot of thing for no reason? Is there a loop hole around this?

My family and i just just moved to a house. And the owners who previously lived in the house left the lawn looking pretty bad. The home association sent us a letter saying that we have to fix the lawn or they will fine us according to law. But we just moved in. What can we do?

1. About the only thing that you can do is talk to the HOA board (there should be some documents with a phone number) and tell them that you have just moved in and give them some idea how you intend to fix the yard. Otherwise, they will fine you, and they have the legal right to if it's in the CC&Rs. They will most likely let the fine go if you talk nice and let them know that you have plans to get the lawn back in shape, but that it may take some time, since you can't control nature.
