Is the US Capitol lawn open to the public?
Just want to throw frisbee or something around the Capitol, but the mall has terrible grass. Does anyone know if the Capitol lawn is open to public use?

- You mean the lawn in front of the White House? No, it's not open to the public.
- Just run onto the grass and see what happens. :D
- No ,the White House has a secure area. The National Mall has a area for frisbees or picnics. The area by the Smithsonian also has an open area. They are all near the White House.
- I don't know why people are telling you about the White House but to answer your question, the lawn around the Capitol is open to the public. It's not the best, most open space to throw a frisbee around but there is plenty of space on the National Mall or on the Ellipse in front of the White House for such activities.
- yes, the lawn around the Capitol is open. i don't know why some people weren't paying attention and thought you meant the White House lawn, they must not realize the Capitol has a lawn or something...
- There is grass all around the Capitol. The problem is that there are Capitol Police everywhere and after 9/11 they aren't too friendly. You can walk around, but I can't say I've seen a lot of people having picnics or playing frisbee on the grass. There aren't huge patches of grass that aren't bordered by a stone "security" wall which seems to be a deterrent against that kind of thing. I don't know if it's forbidden or anything. Ever so often the abortion/war protestors line up in front of the Supreme Court and put those mini graves over on the grass. I never see any of them getting hauled away so it may be okay.
