What is the point of that green plastic netting on lawns? it's so annoying?

1. It prevents wind or water soil erosion. It is biodegradable and disappears as the grass fills in. However it is terrible to look at until it does.
2. Holds seed and soil in place until the grass germinates and grows. It will decompose in time.
