The Grass Doctor

What do you put over grass seed to keep it from blowing away, birds eating it?

We're planting seed in spots we raked up moss. Can we put the old moss on top of it to keep it from blowing away or birds eating the seed? What's the best process of watering? Before? After? Both? Neither? ANy other ideas? It's Scott's that killed the moss for us, we raked it up (how good a job do I really need to do to make this seeding work?). They're putting down the seed and we're 'covering it'. Any ideas?

  1. don't put the moss on the seed use straw, you need to do a good job, I use a rake and make the soil loose 4or5 inch free of rocks and sticks sow the seed and cover with straw and water real good and keep it moist for a week or two water with a fine mist you don't want to wash all the seeds into one spot good luck
  2. put hay over the seeds and keep it watered
