2. not a dumb question. you can go to any local home depot or lowes or garden center, pick up a bag of shade mix grass seed, this is usually a mix of fine fescues so you will need to lay this seed in thick because of the grass blades being so skinny when mature, make sure you water daily, you can also use a starter fertilizer which has a lot of phosphuros minearls this can found at the same locations listed above
