What is the best grass seed mix to use for replacing brown spots on lawn (thanks to my dog!)?
I don't want to add any supplements to the dog's food as has been suggested in previous answers...... incidently my dog gets miles and miles of countryside exercise on a daily basis, butg he does at times need to pee on the lawn....I also have a female puppy arriving in a few weeks time so I need to repair the current lawn before she arrives!! help please!

- If the weather's good enough tomorrow, and you're able, why not try your local garden centre - they often have a few people around who are knowledgable about such things, and there may be different products to choose from.
- The fastest growing grass if you're in a hurry is a rye grass. It grows VERY fast.
- I know what you mean about the dogs, no matter how much excersize mine gets, they still have their favorite spots to 'go' in. Call or go to your local garden centers, be it wal-mart, home depot or someplace like that, and see if they have "Quicklawn" seeds. It is supposed to take root and sprout in like 5 days. If not you can google 'fast growing grass seed', you'll get answers like Kentucky Blue Grass, and others, depending on your area. Good Luck!
- Rye grass.
- It's a never ending problem; if the dog pee's on the grass the grass dies and the new arrival will double the brown spots. As fast as you reseed the problem will occur in another spot. You would be wasting your money, but Wilkinson's sell an own brand called tough lawn which is a mix of coarse grasses. You'll end up with different parts growing at different speeds, so might as well have the brown patches and save the cash. If you can water the spot straight afterwards that will dilute the pee and the grass will live, if not the lawn will reseed itself over time. Basically you have a choice the dogs or the lawn and I would also have some reservations about feeding a dog hormones to change the chemical make up of its urine. It's bizarre even thinking about it :o)
