How do I find out what type of grass I have?

I need to know what type of grass I have some I can apply something to my grass to help kill weeds. Does anyone also have suggestions on how to application is done?

1. There are several options. 1) Contact your local agricultural extension office. They will be able to either send someone out to look at it and tell you or they may ask you to bring some in. 2) Contact a landscaper. This is expensive. 3)Look around you neighborhood and see if anyone else has grass that looks like yours and ask them. As for dealing with weeds. Just cheat and get some Scotts weed and feed +2-4D. It will fertilize you lawn and kill the weeds.
2. Take several "plugs" from different areas of your yard. That is dig a 2-3 inch bunch of grass with dirt attached. Bring these to your local agricultural extension center (in the phone book. They will be able to test it or tell you where to bring it. Call them in advance and they will help you.
