What is the best type of grass to grow in my backyard?
I have three dogs and live near the beach in NY. The soil is very sandy and drains well but there are many bare patches from the dogs running around and tearing it up. The yard gets some sun/some shade. Does anyone have a suggestion for what type of grass seed to purchase? I don't know anything about lawns and as long as it is green, I don't care. Thanks!

- I'm afraid dogs and turf aren't a very good mix.. they (your words) tear it up. I'd suggest more water and fertilizer.. hopefully the grass will be able to grow faster than the dogs can beat it down. There are high traffic grass seeds available.. they might help. also add sphagnum peat to your sandy soil to help hold moisture. Since you're near the beach, some gypsum might be good to help with the salt.. good luck.
- My suggestion to you is to plant Bermuda seed. It grows in any kind of soil and automatically repairs itself when it gets torn up. Also it doesn't take a whole lot of water to keep it green. I have it in my back yard which is pretty sandy soil and it does great. You want to water it about two to three times a week for about fifteen minutes in each spot. You can throw the seed out over your existing grass. The Bermuda seed will take it over.
