what is special about certain fertilizers?

i'm not buying a fertilizer, so i don't want any recommendations but... what is special about a "tomato fertilizer" that makes it the best type for tomatoes(i know that it includes certain nutrients that tomatoes need, but what minerals??) and also for: aquarium fertilizers african violet fertilizers thanks! i'm doing a lab report, and haven't been able to find anything from my searches

1. You almost need a professional to answer this. Or just look at the ingredients on the boxes. I know that African violets thrive on fish emulsion and so do another many plants. I do grow tomatoes quite well, but the only thing thing I have used is miracle grow (cause mom and grandma did). Never read the labels, just went by Instinct and what was familiar. Just go to the local Lowe's or Home depot and check out the labels. Good luck.
