  1. you need to pick up any leaves/debris/dog poo from the yard (lol) then you need to take a rock rake, and scrape the surface of your yard to loosen the soil. you should turn your sprinkler on over the soil to ensure that the dirt is easy to rake. you dont want to the dirt to be rock hard. then sprinkle the seed over your yard. make sure you buy enough. the bag of seed will tell you how many square feet it will cover. if you are planting grass in the winter, make sure that you have a 'winter grass'. follow the water instructions on what ever grass you buy. this will vary. also, try YouTube. im sure you can view a 'how to' video there.
  2. till the soil,level,seed,cover with hay,keep watered
  3. Hey Jack, rent a small tiller like a mantis and till the soil real good. Mix in several bags of good topsoil. Rake out the rocks, etc. Use a mixture of grass seed in case you get a lawn disease that kills your grass seed. Usually rye grass will germinate quick and hold the soil until the other grass germinates.Throw the seed by hand down on the tilled soil. Use twice as much as you think you should. Rake the seed into the top inch of soil and role or stamp down the seed and soil. Cover with straw or hay. Water daily if warm. When the water puddles it's enough. When the grass grows thru the straw, rake the straw up. Use a rotary spreader and put down Starter Fertilizer.Use the recommended rate. Don't use weed control it will kill the new seedlings. Good luck to you.
