how to plant grass sod?

I bought st. augustine sod from the local nursery and was wondering if i should till the soil or could i just lay the sod on the dirt as it is? i have previously tilled the soil and planted grass seed and didnt have any success. So i decided that i would be much better off buying st. augustine grass sod. Answers would be greatly appreciated!

1. Probably no need to re-till, unless the soil is very compacted. After you put down the sod, keep it well-watered to a week to 10 days.
2. I soak my desire planting area with water and place sod on top. I water extremely well and walk on it to insure it is in the muddy area. Water thoroughly until established.
