The Grass Doctor

how long do I wait to plant grass seed after spraying roundup?

  1. 'Roundup" degrades within 24 hours. You can seed the next day.
  2. According to the Roundup website: All ornamental flowers, trees and shrubs may be planted one day after application. Lawn grasses, vegetables, herbs and fruits may be planted three days after application.
  3. Wait seven to ten days after a good rain. The grass seed should be kept damp for the first week in order to germinate and take root.
  4. This is mostly used while preparing the Driveways in Golf Course. The most benefit of this roundup is to get rid of the unwanted growth of the weeds(duckweed and thorny bushes)Round up is used during the evening and covered with some polythene to cover. If u want to plant the new grass seed u have to wait for 3 to 4 days.
  5. If you still have the bottle, check out the label it will tell you there. For reseeding grass, it should only be 3 to 7 days before you can replant. RoundUp doesn't have any affect on seed because it is a postemergent herbicide (kills weeds after they emerge), but you should still check the label to be on the safe side!
  6. 24 hours is probably best, but Roundup requires leaf surface to kill a plant. It's not a pre-emergent for seeds, so by the time you get an answer on Yahoo, you're probably OK. If you have the time and patience, you might want to "bake" the area for a season before you plant. Put black landscape plastic over the area and leave until next fall. That will ensure than any seeds left in the soil after the original plants died will also be killed. You can put mulch over the plastic and use potted flowers to both hold the plastic down and disguise the unsightly plastic.
