  1. I would recommend that you look into a product called Pozzolan. This is an all natural soil amendment that will really help your lawn! Pozzolan is extremely porous and absorbant, it will absorb and store water and nutrients in the soil at the root zone, keeping them available to the plant longer thus reducing the amount of water that you will need to keep the grass healthy. Pozzolan will also help to break up or loosen the soil so that the roots have room to "breath". Plants need a mixture of soil, water and air near the roots to grow healthy. In the Middle east they are using Pozzolan (they call it "Aqua-Feed) to grow grass in the desert! Best of all, it only requires a ONE TIME application. It will not wash away or migrate out of the soil. Good luck!
  2. Lime it. To kill off the moss. And then after a couple weeks, rake out the dead grass and moss. and then hit it with all purpose fertilizer high in the first number..
  3. ADD: I spent about $100 on mine. My front lawn is small about 50 X 30 feet. I had to buy 60 bags of top soil, starter fertilizer and a high quality seed. It's worth it though! *************************************************************** YES!!!! I am in Montana, and despite the blizzards and cold, I just replanted my entire front lawn damaged by my female dogs over winter. If I can plant one here in April, I'm sure you are more than ready to go in Rhode Island. ;o)
  4. I think you need lime because I see moss. If you get the lime pellets you could throw it out with your hand. Or get a little hand broadcaster. If you get the white snow like lime it's hard to put it out without a push broadcaster. You may need 10 bags for that yard. Get a few bags of peat moss and scatter that all over the yard and then put out some grass. You might try tall fescue "Kentucky 31"
