Will weed killer burn the grass and how long will it take to show?

So, my friends and I are planning to do a senior prank where we're going to burn a "Class of '08" on the practice field grass. I heard weed killer does the trick. Is this true? Is there anything else I can use? Also, once I apply the weed killer to the grass, how long will it take to brown/burn/be noticeable? If I do it tonight, will it show up tomorrow, as in will the people be able to distinguish the writing from the other regular non-burnt grass?

1. you will have to double the strength it will yellow but not kill it will take about 4 to 6 days, salt or round-up will kill the grass so will a heavy dose of granular fertilizer
2. It depends on the type you use. A broad leaf won't hurt the grass.

4. Broad leaf weed killers like 2-4-D will not hurt the grass. Round up is good stuff but will not show up for 7 days 3 or 4 maybe if it is really hot. There isn't a weed killer that fast. Get a bag of lime and then you wouldn't get in trouble. Or spray paint at least that will not kill the grass too. PS, If you use lime get the dolomite lime and not hydrated lime. Hydrated lime will eat your hands and could make you blind if it gets in your eyes. Use Dolomite like they sell at wall mart.
5. What you want to do is a crime. Malicious mischief or vandalism. Do something that is not permanent
