The Grass Doctor

best time to re plant grass seeds? and tips on pulling up root balls?

When is the best time to re seed my front lawn? i have finally got round to doing the fromt garden, am in the process of digging up the old fence posts and the old hedge that was there(about 30 different roots!) does anyone have any tips to help me out? im thinking of using really strong weed killer on the lawn, and letting it settle for 2-3 weeks then turning it over and either re-seed or just buy the rolls of new lawn, i really want a perfect green lawn with no weeds, or bushes, so need to make sure that the pesky hedge doesnt re appear? how can i make sure of this? cheers peeps! x

  1. Re-seeding grass is best done when it's still cool, with soil temps in the 50's. Usually, that means 6-8 weeks before the last frost date in your area. Next - weed killer only works if it's applied to the growing weeds. If you see no green, you'd be wasting your time to spray. The chemical needs to be absorbed by the leaves to work. If the hedge tries to re-appear, cut the sprouts, then immediately paint the cut surface with brush killer.
