The Grass Doctor

How long does grass take to grow after you plant grass seed?

Public Comments

  1. A couple of weeks on average. You can cover with a little peat moss to help keep it moist. Allowing it to dry out is likely to kill it so keep it wet.
  2. Depending on the variety of grass you planted and what the temperature of the soil is, you can wait for as few as 7 days and as many as 45 days for grass seed to germinate. Don't worry, Mother Nature is smarter than all of us. It will sprout when it's time. Bug Doc
  3. Most varieties will germinate (sprout) in 10-14 days. The soil temperature has to be near 60-degrees F and the seed should be kept damp at all times until it sprouts. It will take several weeks before the grass really fills-in and is ready to be mowed.
