How long will it take scotts grass seed to grow?
On the grass seed bag it said for new lawns to use scotts starter fertilizer for better results. So i put grass seed with fertilizer. Its been 6 days so far and i dont see anything. Ive put grass seed before and it seemed like it only took 5 days or so... What is the longest it can take? I put sod topper on top of the seeds . A very thin coat just so the birds wont see or eat the seeds. I was told to do this by someone.

- I don't know what 'sod topper' is but, good soil contact and constant moisture as well as heaps of sunshine are key to grass seed germination. A week is a reasonable amount of time to start witnessing good growth.
- Depends on where you live and what you purchased. Bermuda seed will not germinate in Dallas until late May, and fescue won't survive our summers. As a rule of thumb, once ambient temperature is above 50, fescue will germinate. Now go drink a beer and relax.
- if you planted a cool season grass, that is fescue, blue or rye grass, it should start to emerge in 7 to 12 days, depending on temp. prior to the grass breaking ground, you will notice a slight reddish brown tint popping up, which is the covering surrounding the seed and the next day you will start seeing the green. if you planted bermuda seed, it will take approx. 14 days for hulled and 28 days for unhulled good luck.
