- You should call some of your local nurseries. They should carry organic lawn fertilizer formulated for your area which tho natural, it's not manure.
- Milorganite has been around for 50 yr. or more. It is made from sewage sludge. Available in So. Cal. and everywhere else.
- Any commercial lawn food you can buy at a nursery is perfectly safe to use. Just apply it and water it in. Wait until spring when the grass is growing before applying any fertilizer. Don't get hung up on the word organic it is just a buzz word. What the plants need are nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. and a good fertilizer has these ingredients in it. You are right not to want steer manure it will smell up your yard so bad you cant live near it. If you wnt to know more about fertilizers read the following Wickipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fertilizer
- Ringer Lawn Restore or mail order from Garden's Alive. I like to use corn gluten meal either mixed with the fertilizer or applied separately because it helps prevent weeds safely. Maybe this will help you also:http://www.herb-arium.com/lawncaretips.htm
