Has anyone used a product that protects your lawn from those awful yellow burn marks caused from dog urine?
I have 3 dogs that are destroying my brand new lawn. We just spent thousands of dollars to fix up what used to be a dirt patch out back for our toddler to run around and play. I love the way it looks but it is getting trashed quickly. My dogs are either digging up the sod (rrrrrgggggggghhhhhhhhhh) or they are peeing all over it and causing these yellow burn marks everywhere. There is a huge area that is all rock where i try to encourage them to go but I'm no good at training and my husband scoffed at the idea of trying to train them to go in a designated spot. He does not care about what the lawn looks like. But I do - and I do not want to waste our hard earned money on another expensive "toy" for the dogs to destroy. I would like to have one nice thing that I can protect. Anyhow (I'll put my obvious frustration aside) to ask if anyone has ever overcome this issue with any success. I'm hoping that they is a product out there or a supplement that can neutralize the ph of their urine so it becomes a non-issue. I see some products out there but I am weary of purchasing them without getting some reviews on whether or not they work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ;) Hanna what kind of bones are they - have they worked for you?

- I use bones I buy at petco
- I put down synthetic grass. Stays green all year, doesn't burn, doesn't die, doesn't need mowing. Perfect!!! lol
- feed your dogs tomato sauce
- One of the best ways is to saturate the spots with water. This will reduce the amount of nitrogen in the urine that causes those spots. http://www.petpeoplesplace.com/resources/advice/dogs/325-yellow-grass-dog-urine.htm <-- this website also says, soda, corn syrup or sugar works too.
- I give my dog bottled water and my yard doesn't have any burned grass. It works like a charm, but she is a small dog (toy poodle) and I only have one.
- I know there are products on the market for this, but I haven't tried any so can't offer up if any of them work or not. But I have seen Victoria Stilwell teach dogs to go behind a fence. I would try and google it or see if the clips are on youtube, but basically every time you put them out to go pee, you walk them back behind a poop fence and they go potty. Lots of praise. And eventually it's supposed to become habit. We, and a lot of other people, teach their dogs to ring a door bell to go potty, so if dogs can consistently do that, I'm sure it's possible to have them go in the same spot every time. Also, I've never tried it, but each day before you let them out, maybe you can scatter treats and/or kibble in the rocks you want them to play in. They'll sniff them out (if not right away, maybe with a little help from you..) and scavenge for little pieces of hot dog / kibble in the rocky area. Do this every day, then every other day, and hopefully they'll become naturally fond of that area? I don't know, but good luck!
- NO! I'm not a gullible sucker! NOTHING you put in IN a dog will do squat! You either keep them OFF the grass=properly penned on concrete=or follow them around w/a hose the rest of their lives!!!! The ammonia in urine=ALL urine=burns/kills the grass & NOTHING will stop that!
