Would now be a good time to plant Bermuda grass seed in Dallas Texas?

Hi, would now be a good time to plant bermuda grass seed in Dallas Texas? how should I go aobut preping my front yard for planting seed? I thought of mowing the yard close to the ground as possible and then do a good rake, then spread seeds with the spreader. will this work? thank you all in advance for your answers.

  1. OMG! unless you have a riding mower (pant pant breathing) Sorry i am out of breath i just finished my lawn. BeRMUDA Grass I started yester day a 4 x4 area. {;-p Then sure.. Have fun!
  2. You can, but your grass will not have a solid root system to with stand the hot summer months that are approaching. All seeding and reseeding should be done in the cooler months, like the fall. Not sure when you guys actually get cooler months, but that is the rule of thumb. This will enable the grass roots to establish a strong root system so that it can with stand the hot summer months. What you can do now is, yes, mow the lawn, but not too close to the grown, because you can burn the grass with your heat now. I'm pretty sure your temp now is around 80 degrees F. right? Get a thatcher rake and thatch the yard. You use this in a back and forth motion. You can do this next step now, but not necessary, though this should be done in the fall along with some lime.........aerate your lawn. Next, water your lawn to get it moist. Spread your seeds evenly. Get a good brand fertilizer with weed control and then place that down. Water daily. Only water about 15 mins per area. Do not cut lawn for at least 2 weeks. Stay off lawn. Remember next year in the fall, do this same procedure. Aerate, and every other year use Lime. Our lawn after 2yrs finally looks like a golf course lawn and I did it all by myself. :-)
