The Grass Doctor

What is the best killer for dandelions?

A am a new home owner and am new to all aspects of lawn care. I have dandelions everywhere! What is the best way to kill them? There are so many brands of chemicals, which have you used and were you happy with the result? Digging them up is not an option. There are to many. Bleach will kill the lawn, not just the weed. Round up also is meant to kill the grass. Please only answer if you actually know what you are talking about. The lawn was mowed every other weekend all last Spring and Summer... they are still there. Again... unless you know what you are talking about. KAVA, thank you so much. That was helpful. I will try a spray.

  1. use a garden weasel to pull them out by the root and plug you can also use round up spray
  2. use bleach
  3. Just mow it - grass is more able to survive being cut than dandelions, so just mow it regularly until the dandelions die off.
  4. there are products out there made to kill dandelions and broadleaf weeds while leaving your grass healthy. Try finding one in a store like Home Depot or Lowes. Also I find I have better luck to the liquid ones over the granules. Hope I helped a little.
  5. 2-4D400 (or level 4), which has a moderate level percentage of 2-4D and the highest you can buy and spray without a chemical license... it's a selective broad leaf weed killer and won't kill most turf grasses, but be sure to read the label prior to use.
