The Grass Doctor

what does an 18 year old senior in high school have for job options. that are beyond fast food typical?

i am kinda being forced to search for a job, and my parents aren't a huge help. So what are some suggestions for a kid who doesn't know what life has in store for him. All i have done is basically property maintenance. aka cleaning ownerless houses and lawn work. Even as far as laying sod down for a whole front and backyard. so yeah no experience i don't think.. please help? i looking for a legitimate job.

  1. Any shop work, waiting staff, bar work (if you are English) etc ...
  2. Are you looking for a career or for something to hold you over? I'll assume the latter, and in that case, I'd suggest you look for a job in the line that you have experience in: manual labor, of the property maintenance variety.
  3. Doing the clean up around new homes, or even the older ones is a business. You could go into your own business. I knew a guy that would clean out peoples garages and the basement. A lot of the things he got to keep instead of taking them to the dump. He had coke machines signs and so many things to list. He could sell all these things and make even more money. He ended up still doing this and then started buying houses and renting them out. Its a good job if you are willing to work.
  4. To make more than minimum wage, you need experience, which means putting in some time at minimum wage. Economy is really bad right now, so make a wide search and don't reject any offers without carefully considering them. As high school and college students return to school, it is a good time to find jobs. Many properties are always looking for maintenance, so that could be a good area to focus on, since you have some experience. Enroll yourself for Fall classes at your local community college. You can take 2 night courses even if you get a job. They have programs to prepare you to work on cars, HVAC, computers, etc. And they have a job placement office to help in the job search. Once you are enrolled, you can use the placement office even though school hasn't started yet and you haven't taken any classes. Most community colleges offer aptitude tests to test areas in which you might find working of interest, to help you concentrate on training or looking in an area which will maintain your interest. I'm confused, are you graduated from HS or in senior year?
  5. why dont you use your experience in doing lawns . and start your own landscaping business. you can also make good money as a waiter . find out where your local career center is they have lots of assistance for teens and young adults. If you cant find what you want take anything right now even if its fastfood and gain some experience and build up a savings acount. then it will look better on your application when you apply in a few months for something you really want. i hope this helps its a few ideas to start with.
