What are some effective ways to keep flys away from food?
I love having outdoor shindigs, but I hate the whole fly part. We've tried spraying poison around our home and lawn (different type, right now we're using organic stuff), fly trap bags (those stink horribly) that you hang outside, electric bug zapper, and netting around food. Still those nasty things somehow manage to make being outside a bother. What else can I do to keep flys at bay?

- ziplock bags filled with water, not kidding!! I think it's an old wives tale or something. At home in the country, we get massive amounts of flies because of the cat food. So my gramma started putting out big quart-sized ziplock bags filled with water. And the flies stay away. It's really weird.. and cool. I do it at my apartment too. I put them on the porch because I keep the doors open a lot cause of my cats, and it more or less keeps the flies away.
- Well, you should keep your food covered. As well as use some sprays to not let them enter your house.
- Hang old cds. Zip up plastic bags, gallon, with water and shiny pennies in them will work. You make holes below the seals and hang with strings or hooks.
