Buffalo grass song from the 70's?

when I was a kid in the early 70's, my older sister brought home a lot of 45 records, one of them had a song about buffalo grass, as I remember it, it was about someone being shot and laying in the buffalo grass to die...Anybody know what the heck I'm talking about?
