- Buffalo grass is great stuff especially if you live in low moisture areas. Buffalo grass only requires about 15 inches of rainfall a year. The only drawback to it is it takes longer to green in the spring and it browns earlier in the fall than typical lawns of kentucky blue or fescue. I planted a mix of buffalo grass and blue grama just this year. Here's a great website that offers several varieties of buffalo grass. They are a great company too! http://www.highcountrygardens.com/results.html?result=quicksearch&searchterm=buffalo+grass&searchtype=p&s=1&term=1
