The Grass Doctor

How do I get the grass in my lawn to be all one type?

My lawn is composed of all types of grasses and weeds. I want it all to be one nice rich type of grass. Right now I have dandelions (the white kind) and four and three leaf clovers. I want it all to look like the one you see in magazines. Please help me by giving me a way that won't require tearing up my lawn, hiring landscapers or anything overly expensive. BTW I live in Nashville, Tennessee. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

  1. Continue to pull the weeds that you see, try Scott's weed and feed, and then over seed the areas where you want to get rid of the unwanted grass and vegetation. You have to stay on top of it all year long to get it that way. Once you have it that way, it becomes much easier to maintain.
  2. You can not get the grass to be all one type. You can get rid of the weeds but most lawns are a mixture of grass such as fescue, Kentucky Blue Grass, shade grass, and rye grass and weed killers will not touch these. The different types of grass look good after a mowing but some grow faster than others so you may have different heights unless you mow often. You need to prevent crab grass from sprouting in the spring and you kill broad leaf weeds during the summer. You need to fertilize about three times a year. One of those would be in the fall to feed the grass so that it can winter over properly. You need to water the grass properly and cut the grass properly (don't cut more than one third the height of the grass and keep the mower blades sharp). Form Ohio but it should apply to Tennessee also.
  3. roto till the lawn put the seed down that you want put hay over it keep it watered two weeks you will have grass
