is it too late if i want to replant my whole lawn with grass seeds? I live in Waterloo, Ontario?

  1. No, I do not think so. Just go ahead put some fine earth and plant your seeds evenly and I am sure you will have a delicate lawn by the end of August. Just be patient.
  2. You'll probably get better establishment if you hold off till late summer/early fall. That's prime germination time for cool season grasses.
  3. You can, but will need to water it more and it may die if we get a warm, dry July/August with water restrictions. And you will have a lot of competition from weed seeds. Early spring and early fall are better as the young grass grows much better with rain and cooler temperatures then. Early Fall (late August, early Sept) is best as there are much fewer weed seeds around. You will need to water the seed daily, cover with burlap during germination, water frequently after germination. Select a mix with a high % of perennial rye which germinates quickly. Or sod the lawn, which can be done anytime. See below for OMFRA recommendations on how to seed a lawn.
  4. You'll have to spend a lot of $$$ to keep grass seed watered all summer. Fall is a more ideal time to seed.
