Is it bad for horses to graze grass that has had chemical fertilizer applied?
The fertilizer is standard lawn fertilizer/weed killer containing Ammoniacal Nitrogen, Urea Nitrogen, Phosphate, and Potash. It was applied well over a month ago, there has been abundant rain, and the grass has been mowed several times since application. The concern is whether any potentially-harmful chemical remains in the grass plant that could be bad for our horses if we let them graze on the lawn.

- Your grass has had plenty of time to recover from the fertilizer. We'll usually let our horses back out in the grass after a good rain (or lots of watering), providing it's been at least 48 hours.
- yes it is bad, it can go into there system's and shut down there kidney's liver's..etc. its like poison
- I've got a feeling the time after application of fertiliser is something like 4-6 weeks, so it should be alright by now - especially if it's been raining. I'd be inclined to wait a couple of weeks longer though, if you're not desperate to get the horses back on, just to be sure.
- After one good rain the fertilizer in deep in the ground and far away from the grass stems.
