The Grass Doctor

Lawn cut no shorter than 2.5", 3", 3.5" or 4"?

My lawn is Kentucky bluegrass, and I have been the above various height, and want to know which one is correct.

  1. I like the 3". it looks great but has to be cut a little bit more often....
  2. Generally the higher the growth the better the root - root systems generally grow as the height of the grass does. If you have a drought or too much rain the lawn has a better chance of survival and is healthier in the long run.
  3. Personally, I wouldn't go below 2.5". Three inches does require a fortnightly mow, but on the upside you won't get the weed growth that you get with shorter lawns.
